- Telangana Government has confirmed that the state will not observe another lockdown
- The state recently witnessed a spike in the number of cases
- An MLA of the ruling party has tested positive for COVID-19
The Government of Telangana, on Saturday, denied the rumours of the state observing a total lockdown once again. The social media was flooded with the rumours of another lockdown after Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the Animal Husbandary Minister of the state, said that the Chief Minister would take a decision in two or three days.
When contacted by The Times of India, Srinivas Yadav said that he wasn’t talking about the lockdown. Although the people assumed that the lockdown might be imposed again. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary, also confirmed to TOI that there will be no lockdown.
India has observed four phases of lockdown so far. The first phase of the lockdown was from March 25 to April 14 while the second phase ended on May 3. India observed the third phase of lockdown from May 4 to May 17. The lockdown was extended till May 31 later. India entered Unlock 1 from June 1. The lockdown was extended till June 30 in containment zones.
COVID-19 cases in Telangana
On Thursday, Telangana witnessed a record of 208 new cases – 175 cases were reported from Hyderabad – while on Friday, 164 cases were reported. The increasing number of cases in the state is something that the government needs to address soon. As for now, Telangana has over 4400 positive cases of COVID-19 patients. Over 170 deaths have been recorded in Telangana.
Finance Minister in quarantine, MLA tests positive
Meanwhile, T Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana, is in quarantine as his Personal Assitant has tested positive for COVID-19. Rao had met his PA five days ago. Apart from Rao, 16 members of his staff are also in quarantine.
In another update, an MLA of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party has tested positive for COVID-19. The identity of the MLA hasn’t been revealed.
